Romans 9: 30-33 Continuation of "Coming to Terms With Resistence"

MESSAGE NOTES

Human Responsibility
Romans 9:30-33
Dr. Jeffrey Clark
Question: How does one pursue righteousness before God?
Gentiles did not pursue righteousness – and found it.
Israel pursued righteousness by law – and did not find it.
Applications:
Answer this question: what am I going to do with Jesus Christ?
Address this matter: one could identify with the visible church without being a member of the invisible church.
Pray for neighbors: my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved (Rom 10:1).

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: How do most people seek to be right with God? How about you?
Digging Deeper:
1) In these verses (Romans 9:30-33) we learn that the way human beings seek righteousness before God is their responsibility. There is one way that works, and another way that does not. Discuss.
2) Following a law of righteousness (v. 9::31), one’s own righteousness (10:3), or righteousness based on law (10:5-6), does not ultimately gain standing before God. Why not?
3) Instead, following righteousness based on faith (v. 9:30 and 10:6) and the righteousness of God (10:3) does gain standing before God. Why?
4) One important feature of our series in Romans 9 has been establishing that God’s sovereignty and human responsibility may appear contradictory but ultimately are not. In what way have you been able to settle this in your mind?
Taking it Home: Begin to pray for neighbors and friends personally and by name: my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved (Rom 10:1). Ask God for opportunities to invite someone to our Family Movie Night (March 14) or upcoming Easter services (April 11/12).

love languages

How do you feel loved?   Five Love Languages  Gary Chapman   Words of Affirmation : Actions don’t always speak louder than words. If this is your love language, unsolicited compliments mean the world to you. Hearing the words,  “ I love you,” are important-hearing the reason behind that love sends your spirits skyward. Insults can leave you shattered and are not easily forgotten.   Quality Time : In the vernacular of Quality Time, nothing say s , “I love you” like full, undivided attention. Being there for this   type of person is critical, but really being there-with the TV off, fork and knife down, and all chore s and  tasks on stan d by-makes you feel truly special and loved. Distractions, postponed dates, or the failure to listen can be especially hurtful.   Gifts :  Don’t mistake this love language for materialism; the receiver of gifts thrive s on the love, thoughtfulness, a nd effort behind the gift. If you speak this language, the per...

In God's Time

Pray for God's blessing on myself and others - pray that I may allow him to pursue in his own time and his own Way. Deuteronomy 6:4-7 - 4 Hear, O Israel: The  Lord  our God, the  Lord  is one. [ a ]   5  Love  the  Lord  your God with all your heart  and with all your soul and with all your strength.   6  These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.   7  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. The promise is in faith and assurance apathetic, atheists, and agnostics - The apathetic do not acknowledge God either.  They do not seek him out although they may be aware of Him.  Romans 9:1-5 Matthew 23:37 37  “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings...
