Romans 9: 25-29 Continuation of "Coming to Terms With Resistence"

MESSAGE NOTES

An Effective Call
Romans 9:25-29
Dr. Jeffrey Clark
Question: Where did "not my people" and "unloved" and "Gomor" come from?
The Big Idea: God’s call toward a personal relationship with Christ is effective.
God’s call is effective… so we should be confident, despite obstacles
God’s call is effective toward redeeming love
God’s call is effective toward _______________

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: When you hear the word “vocation,” what does it mean to you?
Digging Deeper:
1) Often we link the word “call” to service or ministry. However, the most prominent use of the term “call” is toward a personal, saving relationship with Jesus Christ.
2) In Romans 8:29-30, Paul indicates that those who God foreknew He predestined, those He predestined He called, and those He called He justified. In Paul’s teaching, is it possible to receive an internal call and NOT be saved?
3) To illustrate God’s call to non-Israelite people, the Apostle Paul uses an image from the prophet Hosea (9:25,26). What do you know about Hosea and why was his life and ministry important?
4) To illustrate God’s call to Israelite people, Paul recites passages from Isaiah (9:27-9). How do these passages reinforce the doctrine of election taught in Romans 9:6-13?
Taking it Home: Continue to ask God for those who do not yet know Christ personally. Whatever it takes, Lord, increase my distress for perishing unbelievers, the persecuted church and destitute poor and my resolve to do what I can to bring them deliverance and relief through the whole gospel of Christ.

love languages

How do you feel loved?   Five Love Languages  Gary Chapman   Words of Affirmation : Actions don’t always speak louder than words. If this is your love language, unsolicited compliments mean the world to you. Hearing the words,  “ I love you,” are important-hearing the reason behind that love sends your spirits skyward. Insults can leave you shattered and are not easily forgotten.   Quality Time : In the vernacular of Quality Time, nothing say s , “I love you” like full, undivided attention. Being there for this   type of person is critical, but really being there-with the TV off, fork and knife down, and all chore s and  tasks on stan d by-makes you feel truly special and loved. Distractions, postponed dates, or the failure to listen can be especially hurtful.   Gifts :  Don’t mistake this love language for materialism; the receiver of gifts thrive s on the love, thoughtfulness, a nd effort behind the gift. If you speak this language, the per...

In God's Time

Pray for God's blessing on myself and others - pray that I may allow him to pursue in his own time and his own Way. Deuteronomy 6:4-7 - 4 Hear, O Israel: The  Lord  our God, the  Lord  is one. [ a ]   5  Love  the  Lord  your God with all your heart  and with all your soul and with all your strength.   6  These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.   7  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. The promise is in faith and assurance apathetic, atheists, and agnostics - The apathetic do not acknowledge God either.  They do not seek him out although they may be aware of Him.  Romans 9:1-5 Matthew 23:37 37  “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings...
